Me & My Editing Backstory
How I Got Into Editing
I’ve been editing about as long as I’ve been writing. Each of my siblings wrote a story or two through their school years (though they agreed that I’m the serious writer among us), and they often asked me to edit those stories or comics. I was happy to oblige! Helping my siblings and editing my own stories and articles started to build my experience. Then in 2018, a friend asked me to edit the novel she and her brother coauthored. That gave me experience in a little bit of everything: content editing, line editing, and copyediting. I slowly realized that editing was something I would like to do professionally. Thus, I enrolled in a course that taught the craft and began to build my business.
My goal is to help authors make their writing styles clear so they can communicate well and achieve their visions for their stories. Editing can be a difficult and discouraging process, but I’m here to mentor writers through that step and provide encouragement—and help get their books ready for publication!
About Me
I am a Christian, a writer, and a lover of stories. The oddest mix of analytical and imaginative, I was the grammar girl in school but also a daydreamer. It was only a matter of time before I began penning my own stories; I started writing in high school and never looked back. Coffee and tea both keep me happy, and blasting Celtic music or Ofra Haza albums in the car is a legitimate form of therapy. And while a hobbit at heart, I would definitely be a firebender as well!
When I’m not writing or editing, I read books and obsess about fictional characters, sing at the drop of a hat, and take long walks no matter the season. I love making my own clothes—and cooking is a really good way to calm down when a seam goes wrong. I’m also an artist, which means I have accidentally collected about 1,356 sketchbooks and art pads. And just don’t ask how many tubes of watercolors I have…
